In Hot News, Press Release

While attendees are admiring classic cars during Hot August Nights, the generous 501(c)(3) registered nonprofit arm of the event—the Hot August Nights Foundation—shines brighter than the headlights with its give back program. In 2017, the Foundation donated more than $140,000 to local nonprofits, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada, The Discovery Museum, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Washoe County Advocacy Center, Washoe Inspire Academy, Northern Nevada Special Sports and Mom’s on the Run to name a few.

Since its inception, the Foundation has donated more than $868,000 to help children in the community who are considered in-need, or at-risk. The Foundation advocates and promotes the importance of education and provides vital resources within the local community.

This December alone, the Foundation’s volunteer members assisted with fellow community organizations, including delivering thousands of dollars worth of toys to Toys for Tots and the Washoe County Sheriff’s “Christmas on the Corridor,” giving away over 400 sweatshirts to children at Hidden Valley Elementary School and participating in a shopping event at Kohl’s for 25 at-risk children with the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows.

“Our Foundation’s volunteer members and Board of Trustees are passionate individuals  within the Northern Nevada community wanting to make a significant difference in the lives of children,” said Hot August Nights Executive Director Mike Whan. “To make a lasting impression, the Trustees focus on the budget to provide these vital resources that students need  to thrive in our community, while our members collaborate with our community to administer these programs and events whether that be a scarf or coat to keep them warm in the winter, or a college scholarship.”
