Presented by the Hot August Nights Foundation, the challenge takes place Saturday, Aug. 10

RENO, Nevada (April 22, 2024) – Known as the largest nostalgic classic car show in the U.S., Hot August Nights has always been about more than just a car show. With the development of the Hot August Nights Foundation in 2007, the organization put into practice its mission of supporting the Reno-Sparks community it calls home, helping deserving and underserved youth gain access and opportunity to the resources they need. In 2024, Hot August Nights takes this initiative a step further, offering the Youth Automotive Challenge, a team-oriented competition where youth participants stand to win $10,000 in scholarships and prizes, as part of the 10-day event in Reno-Sparks, Nevada.

The Youth Automotive Challenge takes place at the height of Hot August Nights’ busy weekend, Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, giving participants an impressive audience to show off their hard work.

“The next generation of car lovers are showing up, doing amazing things, and we want to foster their love of cars by giving them an opportunity to show off their talents and help support them in reaching their goals,” Deny Dotson, executive director of Hot August Nights, said. “We aim to provide a platform for youth involved in the automotive profession while helping to offset tuition costs, and at the same time putting them in touch with our sponsors and the car community to help them grow the confidence to fulfill their dreams.”

Groups of no more than four young adults 21 and younger will team up to show off their automotive projects. The projects are open-ended as long as they are automotive-related. Projects can be assembled at the venue or provide documentation, including video & photography documenting the project from start to finish. Projects are judged based on design, functionality, creativity, originality, and presentation. Demonstrations and judging take place Saturday, Aug. 10, at the J Resort Glow Plaza in Downtown Reno from 8 a.m. until noon. The event includes demonstrations and guest speakers from industry leaders.

The Youth Automotive Challenge winners will be announced and awarded at the Hot August Nights Event Series Grand Finale, held Sunday, Aug. 11 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.

All interested young adults are encouraged to apply at www.hotaugustnights.net/youth-automotive-challenge/. The deadline to apply is July 1, 2024.

The Youth Automotive Challenge is sponsored by the Hot August Nights Foundation, Adam’s Polishes, Big Daddy’s Motor Cars, Summit Racing Equipment, and Women with Wheelz.
