Hot August Nights’ Event Series Sizzling Across the West Coast and Beyond

RENO, Nevada (Feb. 20, 2024) – In 2023, the largest nostalgic classic car event in the country, Hot August Nights, elevated the competition by inviting any car club promoter in the country to become a qualifying event for an award that can’t be bought – HAN Event Series Grand Champion. The HAN Event Series crowns the best of the best, a Grand Champion, as well as winners in another three categories. In its first year, the HAN Event Series had 56 participating shows in three states, sending 56 qualifying winners to the HAN Event Series Finale where the 2023 Grand Champion was selected – a 1956 Chevy Nomad owned by Greg B. The Grand Champion serves as THE car in all promotional marketing for the 2024 event.

As the HAN Event Series quickly catches on, the time to sign up for the 2024 competition is now. The Series is open to any car club or promoters with shows now through August 10, including awards held during the 2024 Hot August Nights event taking place in Reno, Nevada, August 2 through August 11,

2024. Winners from each participating show receive a coveted invite to the HAN Event Series Finale, taking place Aug. 11 as part of the Hot August Nights event finale.

“The HAN Event Series is not a local competition; it’s designed to find the best of the best in the U.S., bringing together the entirety of the car community for a competition money can’t buy,” Deny Dotson, executive director for Hot August Nights, said. “This level of competition brings out the competitive nature of the car community, showing off the blood, sweat and tears that goes into these incredible vehicles. Whether it’s here in Reno or somewhere on the East Coast or anywhere in between, any qualifying classic vehicle 1979 or older has an opportunity to be our next Grand Champion. As we say, ‘there can be only one.’”

The 2023 Grand Champion, Greg B., won over the judges with his 1956 Chevy Nomad. Hot August Nights fans will see his vehicle staring as the 2024 poster car. His vehicle is also featured on HotAugustNights.net throughout this year, it will be showcased on the cover of the official program titled, “Owner’s Manual,” as well as other award accolades including his name on the rotating Grand Champion trophy, a Champion winners’ jacket, $5,000 in cash, HAN vehicle registration #0001 for the 2024 event and more. The 2024 Grand Champion will receive the same recognition for the 2025 Hot August Nights event.

To participate in the HAN Event Series, presented by Champion Chevrolet, car clubs and promoters must register and pay an annual fee of just $20. Individual participating vehicles must then purchase a $10 decal to display in their window; decal is good for the entire 2024 event year through Aug. 10, 2024. Winning vehicles with the decal automatically receive an invite to participate in the HAN Event Series Finale event where all the winners from various car shows throughout the year will converge and one winning vehicle will be crowned as Grand Champion.

HAN Event Series decals are available for purchase online at HotAugustNights.net or from any participating car show. To learn more about the HAN Event Series, visit online. Classic Car Auction Comes to Hot August Nights with the Return of Motorsport Auction Group

MAG continues to give back with $500,000 raised for local non-profits since 2016

Hot August Nights is once again teaming up with Motorsport Auction Group (MAG Auctions) for the annual Collector Car Auction, Aug. 3– 5, 2023,at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center as part of the annual gathering of more than 5,500 classic cars. This action-packed, three-day event held during the event week has raised more than $500,000 for Reno-area organizations since 2016. The auction brings more than 500 items including classic cars, vintage cars, street rods, muscle cars and an extensive selection of memorabilia to bidders from across the country. Car aficionados, those looking to add to their collection or anyone looking to experience a live, energetic auction attend MAG Auctions eighth year at Hot August Nights.

Generously, MAG Auctions supports the Hot August Nights Foundation by auctioning off a vehicle with proceeds benefiting the organization’s mission to provide children in-need or at-risk in the Reno-Sparks area with a more meaningful and productive life. This year’s Foundation car is a 1957 Ford Country Squire 9-passenger wagon with a light green exterior, dark green interion and powered by a Thunderbird special Y block and equipped with power steering and power 4-wheel drum brakes that have recently been overhauled.

“The Hot August Nights Foundation is fortunate to have two donors that alternate each year in providing us with a car for the auction,” said Deny Dotson, executive director for Hot August Nights and Hot August Nights Foundation. “When we received word this was the vehicle for 2023, we were so excited to offer up this cruiser. This is a great car and is ready to roll from the auction block, right into the streets of Reno-Sparks.”

Since 2007, the Hot August Nights Foundation has helped more than 80 different organizations by distributing over $1.3 million in cash, merchandise and scholarships. Learn more about it and watch a video here. For the exact date and time this car will be auctioned, visit MAG Auctions online.

“We live and work in this community, too, so we feel it’s important for us to help raise awareness and funds for the organizations that work so hard to make this a beautiful place for everyone,” Mike Oberle, co-owner of MAG, said. “A big portion of our fundraising helps children in need and it’s the generosity of our donors and attendees that makes this possible. We are honored to present this auction and support our community in the process.” In addition to the Hot August Nights Foundation, MAG Auction helps raise money for other Reno-Sparks area non-profits. Last year, Make-a-Wish, the Humane Society and the City of Reno K9 Unit were among the other recipients. Reno Police Department’s K9 Unit will again be involved in the 2023 auction, with their highly trained dogs performing exercises and added security. In recognition, MAG will auction an item to benefit their unit.

Hot August Nights Kicks Off National Volunteer Week with a Volunteer Recruitment Event

Friday, April 14 from 5 – 8 p.m. at the National Automobile Museum

The ability to support the 5,500 officially registered vehicles and the more than 300,000 attendees can only happen with the fuel that makes the 10-day Hot August Nights event run – volunteer members. The nearly 400 volunteer members are responsible for ensuring that each event over the 10 days happens – from the Show-n-Shines, nightly cruises, entertainment and everything in between. In recognition of National Volunteer Week, Hot August Nights invites anyone interested in becoming a part of the Hot August Nights volunteer team to attend a Volunteer Recruitment Event taking place Friday, April 14, 2023, from 5 – 8 p.m. at the National Automobile Museum, located at 1 Museum Dr. in Reno.

Attendees will learn more about the organization, talk about committee involvement and sign up for 2023 while hearing from current volunteers about the benefits of being involved. Annually, nearly 200 volunteer members support Hot August Nights and Hot August Nights Foundation. Membership is required at an annual contribution of $40 to cover the costs of incentives like parties and dinners, as well as materials provided including a polo, hat and other supplies.

“The benefits far outweigh the membership cost, after all that’s about what it takes for two people to go out to dinner,” said Deny Dotson, executive director for Hot August Nights. “Hands down, we couldn’t do what we do without our volunteers. They are the first to be there and the last to leave. This is their event. Our volunteers also keep things moving year-round by supporting our five-member staff team in areas such as administration, the Hot August Nights Foundation community outreach programs and the support we lend through the year to other organizations and groups.”

National Volunteer Week takes place April 16 – 22, 2023 and is designed to generate awareness about the positive impacts of volunteering in your local communities and to say, “thank you,” for putting others first.

“I didn’t think that when I signed up as a volunteer that I would receive much more than the t-shirt and goodies,” said Corrinne Carmignani, a Hot August Nights volunteer since 2010. “I was new to the area and thought it would be a great way to get connected. Through volunteering, I was rewarded with much more including friendships and supporting a community event that gives back in so many ways. Plus, it’s incredibly fun and rewarding work that I look forward to. I’m the true winner through all of it.”

Information on becoming a volunteer is available online at HotAugustNights.net/volunteer-member including membership benefits and an application for 2023.
